A Love for Color
It started with a skein of yarn, a crochet hook, and the desire to craft my children scarves like Harry Potter wore. Six years later I had taught myself to knit and spin as well as crochet, stashed years worth of yarn, made new friends that inspired my creativity and a desire to have more control of my fiber craft than I could get from a skein of big box yarn.
Humbly learning to dye on the stove with an old pot, a skein of wool yarn, and blackberries from Grandad's farm, I started a fire in my soul to create color and never looked back. Fast forward five years and we are into year three of a full-time thriving fiber business.
Inspiration comes from nature's canvas, books that feed my imagination and sci-fi and fantasy. As a Nerd Girl I incorporate a lot of math and science into my dye methods and recipes. Every morning I wake up, head to the fiber studio to design new colorways then bring them to life in the dye studio.
I am not only able to support my family but am able to make them a part of a job I love; dyeing yarn, fiber, and silks, and I am thankful for that every day.

Nerd Girl Yarns is a Family Business
Christa, Chief Nerd Girl, knitter, crocheter, spinner. Nerd Girl Yarns is my passion.
Sebastian, aka Boy Genius, shipping dude & dye apprentice. Sebastian has been taking his art to a new medium in textiles since graduation by learning to dye yarns & silks in addition to his drawings, paintings and murals. He manages yarn prepping & skeining, order labeling & packing and is a fixture in the NGY festival booths.
Erik, Honorary Nerd Girl, heavy lifter & post office delivery guy. Proud to be an honorary Nerd Girl, Erik hauls all the festival booth stuff around, drives packages to the post office daily, and helps manage the office and the children.
Miss M, blender of batts & office support. Miss M helps out in the business creating spinning batts when the inspiration hits her as well as providing office support.
Eggs, chief bunny in charge. Eggs is a freeroaming rabbit who keeps the whole household in check. Her biggest complaint is not being allowed in the studios.
